Mototake Makishima is a film director with a background in video art. Through his visual sensibility, he excels at depicting and conveying subtle emotions along narratives.

His films have been shown at a number of international art and film festivals including Sónar, Aesthetica, Filmfest Dresden and Berlin Film Festival. He was invited to participate in Berlinale Talent Campus.

His exhibitions include a solo show at Sketch in London and group shows at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Here Arts Center in New York City, the CCCB in Barcelona and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.

His films have been nominated for numerous awards including the prestigious Jerwood Moving Image Awards and won several awards including Best Styling and Best Music at Santiago Fashion Film Festival and Best Message at Copenhagen Fashion Film Festival.

He graduated from the Royal College of Art. He lives and works in London. He was a BFI Network x BAFTA Crew participant from 2018 to 2022 as well as being selected for the BAFTA mentoring programme. He is a BAFTA Connect member.
