Film director Mototake Makishima trades in visually oriented storytelling. Whether as a video artist creating worlds populated by imaginary objects or directing actors within solid narratives, his cinematic sensibility is what remains paramount.
His films have been shown at a number of international art and film festivals including Sónar, Aesthetica, Filmfest Dresden and Berlin Film Festival.
His exhibitions include a solo show at Sketch in London and group shows at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, the Here Arts Center in New York City, the CCCB in Barcelona and the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London.
His films have been nominated for numerous awards including the prestigious Jerwood Moving Image Awards and won several awards including Best Styling and Best Music at Santiago Fashion Film Festival and Best Message at Copenhagen Fashion Film Festival.
He lives and works in London. He graduated from the Royal College of Art.
